Heritage And Culture Of India
History and Culture are inseparable, they are integrated and understanding of heritage of our civilization is vital to appreciate the composite culture of our nation which are reflected in music, dance, folk dance, drama, painting or other visual arts. Architecture is an important aspect of culture which has been dealt in the preceding section. This section deals with the unique facets of visual arts with a focus to Civil Services Syllabus.
Chapter-1- Classical Music of India
Indian Classical Music is an important aspect from which questions are being asked in Mains as well as in PT. Students find it difficult sometimes to appreciate the depth of the question, because they have not developed the basic concept of classical music. An endeavour has been made in this direction so that students develops an interest in classical music.
Chapter-2 Dance Forms in India
Dances in India has been considered as the divine manifestation of the inner self, which is tuned on the raga and rhythm. The musical accompaniments are in tandem with the gesture of the dancers. In Civil Services examination, the emphasis is on understanding of different dance form in its original forms.
Chapter-3 Paintings in India
Students normally rote the facts related to painting, and in the examination they take the question not in a serious note. THough, with basic understanding, questions related to painting is easy to answer. Paintings and sculptures had also been dealt in the relevant sections of Ancient and Medieval times. Here, our concentration will be more on miniature paintings, its regional variants, modern paintings and its variants like landscape, portrait etc. A brief overview of painters ave also been given. In nutshell, this chapter deals with all the aspect related to painting required in CS(PT) and (Mains).
Chapter 4-Languages and Culture in India
History and Development of Language is important topic, from which questions are being asked in the past. This is interlinked with the events and personality in History, So this chapter needs to be studies once student has finished the earlier sections of Indian History. Other cultural forms like philosophy, Religion and Literatures etc need to be studied in this chapter, since from these domain questions are being asked.
Chapter-5- Architecture, Sculpture and Pottery
Regarding tangible part of cultural heritage, we have studied while we were studying Indian History in the previous classes.In the present chapter, our approach should be to study it through MCQ questions and their descriptions. Though in the post script, with a normal introduction, texts were taken from Free online materials of book by Nitin Singhania, which is basically a commendable collections from different authentic sources.
